From: "dennanm" Date: Tue Jul 30, 2002 10:53 pm Subject: Thoughts on Information Technology dennanm Offline Offline Send Email Send Email A few notes from my lab book I thought some might relate to. 7/29/02 Information, like time, is not linear. Sometimes it goes forward, backward, but also in other directions. Like when the Narrator once gave me info on fractals, and there was this 'subthought', and I could even sense 'subthoughts' of that -- flowering spirals inside the inside of a concept -- unlimited like a fractal, perhaps. The internet is beginning to model this. First we had written books. Then endnotes, and footnotes. Then net's hyperlinks were a hyperjump in concept. Then 'dynamic' data, where many could contribute to and modify one central source, changeable to perception at any moment, and often served "framed in" a way unique or custom to the viewer. Then XML and comments coming, so all who encounter information, even in the smallest part, can share their perspective and see that of others. We are modeling "information technology" for ourselves quite literally; not seeing that in doing so we are vastly expanding our ability to grasp so-called metaphysical concepts about the nature of information itself. It struck me then that the creation of the internet was humanities' unconscious attempt to replicate the 'brain'. It can be incredibly logical, while simultaneously illogical and is totaly awesome to watch as it changes for better and worse. cheers, glk --------------- Moderator's note: And you made the deadline. Thanks. ;-) PJ --- In pjrv...dennanm" We are modeling "information technology" for ourselves quite > literally; not seeing that in doing so we are vastly expanding our > ability to grasp so-called metaphysical concepts about the nature of > information itself.
